VPS-MICRO® Software and the Process – Structure – Properties – Performance (PSPP) Roadmap
PSPP:
PROCESSING
PROCESSING
While VPS-MICRO does not explicitly perform process modeling, it can model the effects on fatigue performance that result from a wide range of manufacturing processes such as: surface roughness, residual stress, and carburizing and nitriding layers.
PSPP:
STRUCTURE
STRUCTURE
VPS-MICRO computationally integrates the macro-structure (component geometry) with the micro-structure (metallic grains, boundaries, voids, defects). This is accomplished through interfacing with structural modeling performed via finite element analysis (FEA) modeling.
PSPP:
PROPERTIES
PROPERTIES
To inform its models, VPS-MICRO needs a standard set of material data, which can be collected through ASTM testing. This includes mechanical and material characterization testing such as: tensile tests, crack growth tests, and metallography.
PSPP:
PERFORMANCE
PERFORMANCE
VPS-MICRO predicts fatigue performance risk. This allows decisions to be made before large investments in production and testing take place. For example: Could an AM-built part replace a conventionally-produced part and still provide adequate fatigue strength?
